Tankless Hot Water Heater Pro and Con

People prefer tankless water heaters mainly because they solve all your household hot water problems at minimal cost. This is despite the higher initial cost of a tankless water heater, which could be easily offset by lower energy cost within the first two or three years. Tankless water heaters have a longer life span and all throughout its life period you will gain from lesser energy bills.

Well, how is it possible that tankless water heaters use lesser energy compared to conventional water heaters? Tankless water heaters are much more efficient than normal heaters because they only heat the water that you actually use. Where as much energy is wasted for conventional water heaters, where the stored water in the tank is heated again and again.

Tankless water heaters come in both electric and natural gas or propane. These types have their own advantages and disadvantages. If you decide to install a gas water heater, not only will you have to run a gas line but you will also have to run a vent for it. You will need to inform the plumber who installs the new gas line, how many B.T.U.’s, the new heater will use, so he can size the pipe correctly.

On the plus side, gas water heaters have a better recovery time than electronic water heaters. Compared to gas water heaters, electronics waters heaters have a very high power draw when they are operating. Fuel cost wise, you will want to install gas tankless water heater for the whole house water heating. Still you need a larger gas line than is standard and the initial installation will be at least twice that of a traditional gas water heater. Granted, but the payback can be just a matter of a few years.
