What Is Tankless Water Heater Technology
The technology applied on various types of tankless water heaterare different. So, selecting a tankless water heater is more important and an increasingly difficult task today. But once you are familiar with the technology used for creating different types of water heaters and identify them with your needs, the choice will come easy.
Most users of water heaters are concerned about the temperature control technology applied in the system. And it is the single most worrying factor of tankless water heaters today. Becuase, it can impact your experience and satisfaction in these appliances you use on a daily basis.
Basically, there are two types of technology used in a tankless water heater, focusing on the need for the temperature control system. They are full on/ full off technology or 'No-flow modulation' and flow- based power modulation or ' Thermostatic Control'
The no-flow modulation technology is the most basic and simplistic of the two. The water heater created based on this technology has only one power setting, ie., full power. They are not suitable for whole house applications.
The turn on function in such types is regardless of of the variance in temperature or water flow rate. The system will remain on at the full power level until the water is turned off. This will lead to overheating problems, besides unnecessary power consumption and early damage to the machine. Also, the level of consistency of output water temperature often fails to achieve.
However, there are models now available in the market created to overcome this problem, which allows users to select from several different power settings and have some control over the heat output of the machine.
The Thermostatic Control technology is more sophisticated, which helps users measure the flow rate of water. Also, it helps modulate the overall power output to compensate for the flow rate changes so as to maintain a more precise temperature level. These units can modulate current (amperage) to the individual heating elements as opposed to just turning no-flow modulator units.
Tanklesswater heaterunits using this technology will adjust the power of the heating elements to maintain the precise output water temperature selected by the user. This means, the user can regulate to the required power level very rapidly in the event of changes to the flow rate of incoming water temperature.
